Snorkeling day trips to Ras Mohammed

Two-hour circuits leave from the Na'ama Bay edge most afternoons. You don't need experience. Operators supply helmets; bring goggles and closed shoes.

Boat day trips to Ras Mohammed National Park run Tuesday through Sunday. Depth ranges from one metre to fifteen. Book direct with small operators — the boats are smaller and the guides know the sites.

Beach bars and evening water

St Catherine's — the Sinai interior

Three hours from Sharm by shared minibus. Most tours depart at 1 a.m. to reach the summit at dawn. Worth it once; not worth repeating. Book through your hotel or a local operator, not a package desk.

The stretch between Naama Bay and Sharks Bay has a dozen outdoor bars worth stopping at. Most open at 4 p.m. None require a reservation.

What to book, what to skip the middleman on

Pay for local knowledge on day trips

Go independent where it's easy

Ras Mohammed and St Catherine's are different. A good local operator knows which boat runs on time, which guide speaks English well, and which route to the monastery is not washed out.

Quad hire, beach bars, and Na'ama Bay snorkeling from the shore need no booking at all. Show up, negotiate a rate, go. Paying a hotel desk 30% markup for the same thing adds nothing.

We list vetted operators — small outfits, not package desks — under each activity. If a listing has a direct phone number, that's the one to call.

April and October give you the most activity options. July and August are manageable for water but hot for desert excursions — start before 7 a.m. or skip the quad entirely.
